Giving some of your time to Sparks can make a huge difference to us.

Whether you can spare one hour or one week, we’d really love you to join our team of volunteers. Please take a look at the opportunities below and get in touch with us to help more babies to be born healthy and grow up healthy.

Volunteering opportunities

London Marathon Expo

How many are needed? Various shifts available

When? Thursday 19th and Friday 20th April (Shift times 10am-1pm, 1pm-4pm, 4pm-7pm)

Where? Excel Centre, London

What? The London Marathon is one of the biggest fundraisers of the year for Sparks. This year we have an amazing 125 runners raising money for us! The week preceding the marathon, Virgin London Marathon puts on an expedition for all runners to attend. Sparks has a stand at the expo from which we can spread the word about the charity and also have the opportunity to meet our runners as they attend to collect their running chips. We need help to assist man this stall with a member of Sparks staff.

London Marathon Cheer Squad

How many are needed? As many as possible

When? Sunday 22nd April 2012 10am – 1pm

Where? Near Limehouse Station – The Sparks Cheer Squad Base

What? We need your help to motivate our amazing marathon runners throughout the course!  We will be cheering, clapping, honking horns, handing out jelly babies and doing whatever we can to give our runners a much-needed boost!

BUPA Great Manchester Run Cheer Squad

How many are needed? As many as possible

When? 20th May 2012

Where? Manchester City Centre (location to be confirmed)

What? We need your help to motivate our amazing runners throughout the course!  We will be cheering, clapping, honking horns, handing out jelly babies and doing whatever we can to give our runners a much-needed boost!

Spread the Sparks word

How many are needed? As many as possible

When? Three hours a week at anytime to fit your lifestyle

Where? In your local area

What? We need people to help us raise awareness of Sparks in their local community to encourage fundraising and volunteering. You could give talks at a Rotary or WI club or arrange a stand at a family fun day or supermarket. We’ll give you the tools and support you’ll need.

Who? You’ll need to be proactive and confident in approaching people for support, with good communication skills and a passion for our cause.

Internship

Communications Team Volunteer Internship

We have a great opportunity for a student or recent graduate who is a fantastic team-player to work in our busy Communications Team.

This 6 month (flexible) placement would suit a current university student looking for an internship during their 3rd year of study or a recent graduate aiming for experience in the communications sector. We are a small and friendly team who are looking for someone who is confident dealing with a variety of people and with high organisational skills. The ideal volunteer will be enthusiastic about the work of our charity (supporting children’s medical research) and ideally possess an interest/skills in the area of PR, communications or marketing. Main tasks will include supporting all aspects of the communications function, including website development, social media presence and PR and media profile.
