Sparks to School
Back to school with Sparks!
The first day of school is an exciting one for both children and parents. But there are thousands of children with rare and complex conditions who won’t be starting school this September.
One in three children with these conditions won’t live to celebrate their fifth birthday. But Sparks’ vital research into child health can help change that.
To raise awareness of our work, we’d love to see your school pictures!
Please share your pictures on our Sparks Facebook page or on social media with #SparksToSchool.
We'd also like to thank everyone for showing huge support to Lucy, one of our No Time To Lose stars, on her first day of school in Scotland!
At just one year old, Lucy was diagnosed with pulmonary hypertension – high blood pressure in the lungs that causes strain on the heart – a condition which has no cure.
“Lucy is very strong-minded and really brave, as she takes it all in her stride,” says Lucy's mum Claire. “Beautiful and bright, she has an amazing imagination”.
This year, Lucy has started school in Scotland. Claire has said that she’s “emotional as it’s a day I never thought we would reach”!
For many children and their families, research is their only hope. We fund research to discover kinder, more effective treatments that these children desperately need. For critically ill children like Lucy, there’s no time to lose.
