Super Ella takes on the triathlon for Sparks

Eight-year-old Ella took on the new Superhero Triathlon for Sparks on 19 August at Eton Dorney Lake, raising well over £1,000 for Sparks in the process.

Ella, who has spina bifida, powered through the sprint-distance course in under 45 minutes. This involved a 150-metre swim, a 3km cycle and a 1km run.

The Superhero Series was founded by Paralympian Sophia Warner to make triathlon more accessible to disability athletes. Famous faces on the day included Double Paralympic 100m Champion Jonnie Peacock, eight-time Paralympic equestrian gold medal-winner Sophie Christiansen CBE, and comedian Adam Hills, presenter of ‘The Last Leg’.

All competitors were allowed a ‘superhero sidekick’ to accompany them and this role was filled by Ella’s mum Helen. Ella’s family, including new canine sidekick Buddy the dog, also made the trip up from Cornwall to support her.
