Gil, 3, was diagnosed with eczema when he was 3 months old. At 6 months, the eczema was particularly bad especially on his face. Very little seemed to sooth his itchy skin and it was a very upsetting time for his parents. There were periods when it calmed down and then would flare up again suddenly.
‘I could firefight it when it was really bad but none of the treatments caused a lasting improvement’ says his mother Eve. ‘Retrospectively, I think it affected my bonding with him. It was very stressful seeing his skin so raw and painful looking and being powerless to help him. It’s fantastic to hear that Sparks are funding the development of a potential treatment that could have a lasting effect on eczema. Although a relatively common condition, the impact it has on families affected by it is very distressing.’
